 BATTERY CARE & WARRANTY

As a battery specialist we are fully aware of the best practice and potential problems with batteries. We always offer the best possible products for your applications.

BATTERY CARE

Maintaining and understanding your battery will undoubtedly lead to a longer trouble free life. We will split this information into a few sections to cater for the different types of batteries we sell, as each type has its own specific attributes.

STARTER BATTERIES (CAR/VAN/TRUCK/MOTORCYCLE ETC)

These batteries are designed for starting a vehicle only. They should never be heavily discharged or completely flattened as this will damage the internals of the battery and considerably shorten its life (as well as void any warranty).

If your vehicle is very rarely used or a hobby, we would always suggest disconnecting the battery when not being used and periodically recharging it to ensure it is always in top condition. A good quality batttery maintainer/trickle charger could also be connected to the vehicle to keep the battery fully charged. If this is your preferred option, ensure the size of the battery maintainer/charger is suitable for the battery/vehicle. Please note a battery charger should be approx 10% of the Ah of the battery, however a battery maintainer can, and in most cases should be considerably smaller than that.

LEISURE BATTERIES

These are designed to be discharged and recharged frequently, however leaving them in a partial state of charge or discharged will shorten their life. So, it is highly recommend to re-charge the battery as soon as practicably possible after use. You should also always ensure the battery is fully charged before storing the battery. We would also recommend putting it on an automatic charger once a month to ensure the battery gets topped up and remains fully charged until you need it.

AGM/GEL BATTERIES

These are designed for both back-up power and also have great cycle life making them the standard choice for many deep cycle applications. The main thing to note is that the same rules apply to these as they do to LEISURE Batteries with regards to keeping them fully charged.. however you must ensure you have the correct "type" of charger to charge and maintain these types of batteries. As both the AGM and GEL batteries require different types of charging voltages to operate to its full potential. Using the wrong type of charger or charging at the wrong voltages will undoubtedly reduce the life span of the battery and cause premature failure.

CHARGERS

People assume chargers always work. Unfortunately they do fail over time, and more often than not the only thing noticed by this is a battery that does not last or doesn't charge up properly. In turn the battery then gets the blame when it could be the charger. Chargers should be kept in dry and dust free environments. As both dust and damp can damage the internals of a charger. Also please ensure free space around the charger when in operation as many will heat up when charging a flat battery or will require air to operate internal fans.
